Gastroparesis Home Remedies
Gastroparesis can cause many unpleasant symptoms, from bloating and cramping to vomiting. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, try some of these home remedies.
Bananas - Bananas are easily digested, and help to counteract the stomach acids that cause an upset stomach. They also help to soothe diarrhea.
Ginger - Ginger has been used by the Chinese as a stomach soother for 2000 years. It neutralizes acids and promotes safe transport through the digestive system. Strong ginger tea is great to settle the stomach and cure nausea. Not feeling the heat? Try double steeping it then pouring over ice.
Mint - Not only does it make breath fresh, mint is a natural stomach soother. The fragrant vapor helps relax tight stomach muscles and promotes the flow of bile.
Water - The human body is 92% water. Common upset stomach symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea rapidly dehydrate delicate tissues, making you even more uncomfortable than before. Try to drink small amounts of liquid often. Water, tea, fruit juices and electrolyte solutions (sports drinks) are great to replenish the hydration and vitamins the body is losing.
Some foods make you feel bloated or gassy-things you don't want to feel if you're stomach is already unhappy. Some foods to watch out for include: coffee, chocolate, cauliflower, baked beans, onions, milk and fried foods. Try to stick to fresh, easily digested food and drinks like those listed above. If none of these are working, or helping, tell your doctor. Doctors may be able to prescribe you a dopamine inhibitor such as domperidone to help with your symptoms.
