Obesity - Leading Cause of Acid Reflux

Acid reflux is on the rise. A headline like this causes one to start thinking about illnesses in the past, before antibiotics, that swept the country with unrelenting consequences. Although many of those illnesses are now controlled if not done away with completely, many Americans still experience poor health. Acid reflux or GERD can be chronic and painful. It can lead to more serious diseases or even cancer. However, the drastic rise in patients with acid reflux in many cases may be avoidable. One of the leading causes of acid reflux is obesity.

Obesity is a topic that has personal meaning to almost everyone these days. If we aren't overweight ourselves, then we probably know at least one person that is significantly heavier than what is recommended. It may be our spouse, a relative, a neighbour or even a child.
